TuneIn and Newport Folk Festival® Partner to Launch Newport Folk Radio

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (July 1, 2015)

TuneIn, the world’s largest audio network, and Newport Folk Festival, the Granddaddy of all American music festivals, today announced a partnership to create an exclusive radio station available on TuneIn – Newport Folk Radio.

The station is a first-ever for Newport Folk. Starting today and leading up to the festival, this live, human-hosted station will be programmed with music by every artist performing at this year’s festival as well as artist alumni, and will be updated each week with new songs, festival information, artist drops, and exclusive artist content that can only be heard on Newport Folk Radio. During the weekend of the festival, July 24-26, the station will broadcast live from Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I. with live-streamed audio performances.

“We’re so happy to have a platform to share content and music with our supporters year-round,” said Jay Sweet, Producer of Newport Folk Festival. “We spend a lot of time discovering and curating up and coming musicians, and fostering collaboration on-site during the Festival weekend. Our new radio station on TuneIn allows us to expand and share that experience with our fans 365 days a year.”

TuneIn worked with Newport Folk to curate the live-stream programming for the festival weekend and some of the featured artists will include: José González, Shakey Graves, Laura Marling, The Lone Bellow, Langhorne Slim & The Law, Field Report, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Rodrigo Amarante, The Watkins Family Hour, Haunt The House, and many more TBA. Some of the exclusive on-demand content on Newport Folk Radio will come from artists including Hozier, Shakey Graves, Blake Mills, and more.

“TuneIn’s technology makes us the only platform capable of launching a single customized station that mixes previously recorded songs, exclusive content and live-streamed performances, and makes that content accessible to a massive audience,” said Summer Watson, VP, Content at TuneIn. “We love finding new ways to engage our audience and encourage music discovery, and we couldn’t be happier to align ourselves with the historic Newport Folk Festival on this station”.

Newport Folk Radio will be available to TuneIn’s 50 million monthly active users who have shown great interest in Folk, Americana and Indie music, most recently clocking in 9.8 million listening hours this year alone.
